Now the
Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the
faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience
seared with a hot iron; Forbidding to
marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to
be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. For every creature of God is good,
and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: For it is sanctified by the word of God and
prayer. --I Timothy4: 1-5
For their mother hath played the harlot; she that conceived them hath done shamefully; for she said, I will go after my lovers, that give me my bread and my water, my wool and my flax, mine oil and my drink. Therefore, behold, I will hedge up thy way with thorns, and I will build a wall against her, that she shall not find her paths. And she shall follow after her lovers, but she shall not overtake them; and she shall seek them, but shall not find them: then shall she say, I will go and return to my first husband; for then was it better with me than now. For she did not know that I gave her the grain, and the new wine, and the oil, and multiplied unto her silver and gold, which they used for Baal. Hos. 2:5-8
But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the
Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his
name. --John 20:31
According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain
unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to
glory and virtue: --2 Peter 1:3
If thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God,
to keep his commandments and his statutes which are written in this book of the
law, and if thou turn unto the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and
with all thy soul. For this commandment
which I command thee this day, it is not hidden from thee, neither is
it far off. It is not in heaven,
that thou shouldest say, Who shall go up for us to heaven, and bring it unto
us, that we may hear it, and do it?
Neither is it beyond the sea, that thou shouldest say, Who shall
go over the sea for us, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do
it? But the word is very nigh
unto thee, in thy mouth, and in thy heart, that thou mayest do it. Deut. 30:10-14
For
Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that
believeth. For Moses describeth the
righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall
live by them. But the righteousness
which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall
ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:) Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that
is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.)
But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and
in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth
the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from
the dead, thou shalt be saved.
And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead? To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them. Isaiah 8:19,20
But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels, To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect, And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel. See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven: Whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven. And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain. Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear: For our God is a consuming fire. Hebrews 12:22-29
The “life” which is divorced from doctrine is false fire and a rattling
of the bones. It is not to be confused
with the Spirit of God, Who is given to those who believe the gospel. The words of the Spirit, the very intimate
breath of God, are recorded on the pages of Scripture. If we do not abide in the doctrine of the
Son, we have neither the Son nor His Spirit.
Herod was very sorry to give the order to behead John the Baptist; The
rich young ruler went away from Christ and was very sad; Judas was so sorry
that he had betrayed Christ that he went out and hanged himself. Repentance is not the same as being sorry;
it means to turn around and go in the right direction. Sometimes people are sad because they refuse
to repent. True conversion involves the
will and is an assent to doctrine and obedience. It is not defined by emotion.
Good and bad feelings come and go; faith overcomes both.
The wicked king
of Assyria is described as an axe in the hands of the Lord (Isaiah 10). “Should the axe boast against the one who
uses the axe,” God asks. In Daniel,
after eating grass like an animal for seven years, King Nebuchadnezzar was
humbled and learned something about the Lord.
“I blessed
the most High, and I praised and honored him that liveth for ever, whose
dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom is from
generation to generation: And all the
inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according
to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the
earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?” --Daniel 4:34,35
There is no weapon that the wicked have that is
not designed and formed by the power of God:
Behold, I have created the smith that bloweth
the coals in the fire, and that bringeth forth an instrument for his work; and
I have created the waster to destroy.
No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that
shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the
heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me,
saith the LORD. --Isaiah 54:16, 17
