The Dream is Alive, though Marxism Is Dead

“Be wise now therefore, 0 ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little.” Psalm 2:10-12

Christians through the world rejoice at the demise of communism, the tearing down of the Berlin Wall, and the opening of Eastern Europe. The church has opportunities and challenges that we have not known in our lifetime. It is a time for prayers, rejoicing, and soul-searching.

There is one recurring theme on the world scene that might alarm the thoughtful Christian. The phrase “New World Order” has been bandied around more in the weeks since the Persian Gulf crisis with Iraq than at any time for many years. With the end of the Soviet threat, there is hope that a new world of humanistic religion and an order based on that religion is now possible.

Recently, John Lennon's song “Imagine” was played on radio stations around the world, in celebration of his birthday. “Imagine” expresses the humanistic dream of a world without nations, religions, laws, or Christian morality. Lennon wrote his creed, and he lived his creed. And some would impose it on the world.

The world is in grave danger of substituting one vain dream for the exploded dream of world communism. The church must speak clearly to Biblical truth that no combination formed against Jesus Christ can ever hope to succeed. He has ascended on high and is sitting at the right hand of God, with all power in His hands. Those who try to impose their vain dreams upon the world only succeed in shedding the blood of men. Vain dreamers in “socialistic” countries have shed the blood of millions to try to bring their dream to pass, and we should learn from them.
